Fact About Pest

Rats (Tikus)

Rats often cause electrical fires in buildings by gnawing through plastic electrical junction boxes. Rats must constantly gnaw on hard objects to cut back their constantly growing incisor teeth. In addition, they live in the most unsanitary places and are carriers of serious health risks to humans from their droppings and constant incontinence (they use urine trails to find their way in the dark). There are two pest species of rats commonly found in domestic and commercial premises - the brown rat and the black rat.

Where do they live and breed? Rats and mice live in drains, under concrete, in sub-floors, in garbage refuse areas, kitchens, roof voids, and other areas where a potential food and moisture source is available.

Rats Control is about understanding rats' habits. For example, rats avoid bait touched by a human hand - they have an acute sense of smell "cunning as a rat". Options may include the use of sticky straps, mechanical traps, and the selective use of latest-generation rat baits. Any rat baiting program should use safety dispensers placed in areas and is secure from access by children and pets - such as in a roof void and sealed sub-floor and/or storage rooms.

How to avoid rats dying inside the house? There is no 100% guarantee that rats can be prevented from dying at home after treatment methods are implemented. A professional pest controller with a basic checklist will provide the best solutions. Considerations such as building surroundings and structure, common rats harborage, type of rats, air-cond ventilation, possible rats entry points, convenience, and cooperation will decide on the methods which vary from baiting, trapping, repelling, and physical barriers. Should rats die and be unable to locate them,

What are the best methods to control rats? In the control of Rats, we practice a 3-tier defense strategy. This strategy is able to curtail rats' attacks from any 3 main species and it provides good prevention after rats' problems have been eradicated or reduced. The cost of implementing these strategies can be expensive. Sky Pest is able to cater with more cost-effective solutions. Talk to us.

Cockroach (Lipas)

Cockroaches are known carriers of serious diseases, such as salmonella, dysentery, gastroenteritis, and other stomach complaint organisms. They adulterate food and spread pathogenic organisms with their feces and defensive secretions.

Cockroaches must molt regularly throughout their life cycle. The discarded skin becomes airborne and can cause severe asthmatic reactions, particularly in children, the elderly, and people with bronchial ailments.

Even the cleanest homes are infected. Although sanitation and hygiene are important deterrents, even the cleanest homes become infested with cockroaches due to minute deposits of grease, sugar, and other food deposits in drains, behind refrigerators and dishwashers, inside cracks, and crevices in kitchen cupboards.

Omnivorous by nature, Cockroaches will eat almost any organic matter no matter how rancid. Once inside the home, they will seek out food scraps, unsealed food containers, sugar and grease deposits, pet food, rancid meat, glue, and even book bindings. They eat each other’s feces, to feed the young "nymphs" and extract all nourishment from an organic food source. If you see a clump of pepper-like specs in your kitchen cupboards, it is likely cockroach feces marking their courtship and nearby nesting territory.

Cockroaches rest during daylight hours in dark warm secure harborages in your home, such as, in wall cavities, the sub-floor, roof void, cracks and crevices in the kitchen and bathroom, electrical appliances, and foodstuffs. They will emerge from these harborages in the still of the night.

Cockroaches have an array of acute sensory and survival instincts. If you see cockroaches in your home during the day, you have a serious problem. If left unchecked a cockroach infestation can rapidly expand its numbers in a few weeks or months to become a major risk to health and safety.

I bought the glue traps from a supermarket and they can capture a lot but I can still see cockroaches. What is the function of a glue trap? For Professional Pest Controller those glue traps with attractants are meant for monitoring purposes after treatment and also for long-term cockroaches population tracing. Proper treatment is necessary should you find the captured quantities are a lot and of various sizes and types. This means that the colony has expanded. Make sure the traps are replaced every month otherwise when it gets dusty the effect will fade.

What is the efficiency of using the spraying method? Spraying is an application method. The deciding factor is the chemicals that we used. A Professional Pest Controller will determine based on the nature of operations, cleaning habits, species, and sensitivity of the space being treated to decide on the treatments. We may also implement alternate strategies if the infestation is severe. Talk to us.

What if we constantly mop like the restaurant daily wash, do we need to spray regularly? This depends on the severity of the infestation. If control is in the early stage this is not necessary. However, more frequent treatment in the early stage may be necessary and after the populations have been reduced, monthly (for food industries) and bi-monthly (for offices and households) should be sufficient. The chemicals that we used will accommodate these operational needs.

Common Ants (Semut)

Ants may travel large distances in search of food. Even the cleanest of homes can provide a ready food source for ants which once found can invade in large numbers, such that professional help is required.

Some do-it-yourself products may provide short-term relief, but may, in fact, make a problem worse. Ants are easily repelled by some common residual remedies and, without finding the colony, their repeated use can often cause a colony to move or even split into multiple colonies. And simply killing foraging ants will not eliminate the colony since the queen remains in the colony and her sole purpose is to lay more eggs to ensure the survivability of the colony.

Ants are now the number one pest problem for which homeowners rely on professional advice and remediation, Since an interior infestation is likely to have resulted from outdoor populations, you should expect your pest management professional to perform a thorough inspection of the surrounding environment and develop a strategy to prevent re-infestation of the building.

For the control of ants, do you also have a baiting method just like the termite baiting system? Yes, the mechanism is similar and effective. However, this method is not proven like the Nemesis Termite Baiting System to eliminate the colony. Ants are found slowly diminished from the baited area due to resistance or they form other nests. Sky Pest also implements this method, but with a combination of other methods.

Lizard (Cicak)

Why do lizard droppings always find the nearby lamp? Lizards are not considered as Pest in the Pest Control Industry. In fact, there are friends that help to control flying insects. However, droppings are seen as a nuisance to many. Lizards like any other pests live near their food sources. At night when lights are lit flying insects will be attracted to the close proximity of the lamp. Hence these hours you will see most of the lizards, and by daylight, they will hide behind cabinets, cracks, and ceilings. To eradicate lizards are impossible but to reduce we repel, and reduce their food source and baits. Rule of Thumb `solve your insects' problem'.

Bed Bugs (Pijat)

Bed Bugs are blood-suckers commonly found in motels, hostels, or boarding houses where itinerant travelers stay overnight. Bed bugs are often found in buildings used to store second-hand furniture or clothing.

Bed Bugs bite at night. The next morning you may see dots of blood in a line on the bed linen. The blood has a sickly sweet odor. Also look for dried blood deposits around cracks in the bed, bed-head, flooring, bedside furniture, and mattress. Some people have an adverse skin reaction to the bite of bed bugs. The bed bug injects an anti-coagulant chemical into the bloodstream of its host which prevents the blood from clotting. This allows the bed bug to suck out the blood until it is fully engorged.

A professional pest controller should be engaged to ensure safe effective control of a bed bug infestation.

Termites In Malaysia (Anai-anai)

If Ants are Termites enemies, does it mean that with ants there are no termites? Yes, ants are termites' closest enemy. In an environment where resources are abundant and for certain species ants and termites can live together. The nesting habits are also different between the two, ants' nests are normally above ground or within cracks and crevices and have multiple aerial nests. Whereas, termites of subterranean species (the most damaging species to home) build their nest deep below ground. Termite movements are protected by soil trails and mounds hence, they are able to live among each other nests. Some even build nests within the nests of its enemy.

Why do termites like to hide? Termites hide for safety and nature. Termites do not have hard shells that can protect themselves, hence they rely on soil trails to fence themselves against enemies. They have thin skin and are easily dehydrated from the heat and the environment, the soil trails besides maintaining a cooling temperature also carry water for the need of digesting food. Within the trails, termites communicate with each other.

Is it because of the Malaysian climate that termites are harbored largely? Tropical and high humidity does encourage the growth of the termites population, especially in coastal areas. However, different species are found to be popular in different areas and countries.

What types of termites are commonly found in Malaysia? Based on the research conducted by USM, it is believed that Malaysia houses at least 48 species. The common species that cost the most to household and property owners are the subterranean species Coptotermes.

What Sort of Harm can Termites Cause? This can vary greatly depending on the species of termites, the size of the colony, its age and vigor as well as other factors, such as the availability of food sources. There are many other factors that can play a role in the speed of attack and the extent of the damage. In many cases where the attack is detected early, the cost of repairs can still be significant, the longer the infestation lasts the greater the cost of rectifying the problem. Termites can also damage books, clothing, and a wide range of cellulose-based items other than structural timbers.

What Do I Do If I Find Termites? DO NOT PANIC. DO NOT DISTURB THEM OR ATTEMPT TO TREAT THEM YOURSELF WITH SPRAYS OR AEROSOLS.

Call a Professional Pest Controller; disturbing termites or killing termites that you can see will only cause the colony to move to another entry point in your property to continue their destruction.

Are All Termite Species Harmful To Houses? No, of the many species of termites a large number of these feed on grasses, standing trees, or decayed timbers. In nature, their role is to recycle important nutrients. Only about a dozen species cause significant damage to structures. It is important that you engage a Professional Pest Controller to ascertain whether your property is at risk.
